K. Sendhil Naathan is an Indian business executive, and the Managing Director and Senior President of TANFAC Industries Limited, a Joint Venture company of Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation and Aditya Birla Group.
Early life and education
Early life
Sendhil was born on Wednesday, 6 September 1961 in the temple town of Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu, India. Although his ancestral home is in Poigaikudi near Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu, he was raised in the small village called Alathambadi, in the then Thanjavur District. His parents Late Mr. Kalayanasundaram and Mrs. K. Sakuntala were respected and honoured teachers at Janaki Anni Govt. Higher Secondary School in Alathambadi.
Education
Sendhil completed his entire schooling from the same Tamil Nadu State Board school where his parents used to teach at; Janaki Anni Govt. Higher Secondary School. In 1983 he earned his degree in Master of Science from St Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli, which was then part of Madras University.
Once he secured a good score in the All India Entrance Exam, GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering), he enrolled into M.Tech in Materials Science and Engineering programme with a specialisation in Polymer Technology. He received the M.Tech degree in 1984 from the highly reputed Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT-KGP), and continues to be a distinguished alumnus from this institution.
He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Leicester, England, UK. He has also completed the Post-Graduate Program in Executive Coaching (PGPEC) from Coaching Foundation of India (CFI) and is coaching a few professionals right now.
In spite of being adorned with these academic achievements, he still continuously strives to quench his thirst of learning new things, and yearns to always be a student. He believes that life is a journey of learning, and often says, “When we were born, we learnt how to be born and when we die, we learn how to die as we are going to die for the first time”.
Career
Sendhil has always had an appetite for excellence in all aspects of his life; during his school and university days, his classmates admired his humbleness & helping nature towards everybody and also nicknamed him "Rutherford" as he excelled in the academic fields. From a very young age he strongly believed and followed the principle of "Let us work towards achieving excellence, and success will follow the excellence”. This happened to also be the core concept of the famous Bollywood movie 3 Idiots, making it his favourite one.
India: Ankleshwar & Ranipet
Sendhil cleared the tough All India ONGC officers’ selection exam & other selection processes. In 1985 he started his career by obtaining the role as an Executive (Class 1 Officer) at the age of 24 in ONGC, Ankleshwar project, Gujarat . However, to excel, he preferred to be in a "more" challenging role; so later in 1985 he joined SIP Resins Ltd, Ranipet, Tamil Nadu, which was manufacturing Epoxy Resins. It was a sick unit facing various challenges during that period, prompting him to take up this demanding role. Here he headed Innovation & Business Development and stretched hard to improve the quality and performance of its products meeting the Customers’ needs. With his best efforts, he widened the customer base, "turned around" the company and made the company into a profitable venture.
Thailand: Rayong & Bangkok
In 1993 Sendhil moved to Thailand as he got an opportunity to work with Aditya Birla Group Thailand (EPOXY Division), based in Rayong and then Bangkok. For the next 17 years, he utilised his expertise for the growth of the company and took up various roles in the Epoxy Business of Aditya Birla Group. He still enjoys great respect for his diligence and accomplishments, from both his business as well as personal networking, in different parts of the world.
India: Chennai & Cuddalore
After spending more than 17 years in Thailand, Sendhil came back to India in the role as Vice President – Marketing, to lead Marketing Function at TANFAC Industries Ltd, Tamil Nadu (A joint Venture Between Aditya Birla Group and TIDCO). In 2014 he was elevated to head the same Unit as the President & CEO when TANFAC was facing a financial crisis. The Aditya Birla Group gave him diverse training opportunities at Gyanodaya, Aditya Birla Group's Global Centre for Leadership Learning, where he sharpened his Leadership Skills and led the company.
His global techno-commercial experience, global networking, versatility in leadership, communication skills, change management skills, etc. helped him bring "transformational changes" in all spheres of management of TANFAC, eventually making it a consistently profitable organisation. By virtue of his strategic and tactical initiatives taken in the company, Team TANFAC recorded its highest profitability in its history in 2019. As a result of these business management achievements, he was recognised with awards, and under his dynamic leadership Team TANFAC also received reputed awards.
Personal life and interests
Sendhil is an avid traveler and has visited many countries around the globe. His travel experiences facilitated him to understand, respect and manage cultural diversity, by valuing its importance for Networking. In addition to writing articles in various journals, he has also been a speaker on various business topics at many International Events and forums around the world.
People from different parts of the world are shining well because of the initial support given to them by Sendhil. Among his family, friends, and colleagues he is known as a man of perfection, hard work, empathy, unquenched thirst for new learning, innovation, solution orientation, networking, out of the box thinking and humility. Having a strong faith in God, he believes in blessings from his Ancestral Deity at the Temple in Senniyanallur, near Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu.
He is a health conscious gastronome who likes to travel, collect & listen to traditional instrumental music from around the world, visit new & historic temples, support the downtrodden, and Do Different things Differently.

Besides being highly decorated in academics Sendhil has received many Leadership Awards from around the world for his efforts and skill set in his industry.
He received "Alchemist Leader Award" in 2018, presented by Aditya Birla Group, for his efforts and accomplishment as the President and CEO at TANFAC Industries Ltd.
Under his leadership TANFAC has been consecutively selected as “Asia's most Trusted Fluorine Chemical Manufacturing Company", in 2018 & 2019 from India region by IBC Info media (International Brand Consulting Corporation, USA).
